Finding Control in an Uncontrollable World

I’ve seen many posts on social media and talked with folks these past weeks that are starting to struggle a bit emotionally to keep their spirits high. And it got me thinking…(a dangerous thing somedays)!!

In a world that can seem out of control, how do we stay in control? Is it maintaining our routines as much as possible? Going for more walks? Having an extra glass of wine? But what if these options aren’t possible? So I decided to share some thoughts.

Perhaps it’s the little things we can do each day that will help us stay positive. For me, that includes doing physical activity in addition to exercise which has visible results. So I sweep my front porch, sidewalk and patio nearly everyday. I put away the dishes in the dishwasher and make the bed.

And since I had a bit of extra time in my day last week, I reorganized my office. Discarding those documents which seemed so important at the time I decided to save them, but when I looked at them again, I couldn’t fathom why!

In my professional life, I’ve been working on my book, writing daily blogs and re-evaluating my business plan-post pandemic. And somedays I may only write a few lines, but I can still sit back and actually look at what I’ve accomplished at the end of the day.

I guess my point is just seeing the real-time results of those actions does wonders for keeping my spirits high. That sense of accomplishment, even if it’s something very small also breeds a feeling of being in control even when it may seem the rest of the world is just the opposite.

What are you doing to stay positive right now? Share your thoughts or ideas and let’s keep the conversation going!
